SUPPLEMENTS AND NEUTRACEUTICALS
Supplements include vitamins, minerals, herbs and amino acids. They are typically single ingredients or combination of a few, and their intention is to invoke some physiological response.
They can be helpful fro those who don't eat a nutritious variety of foods, as supplements may help you get adequate amounts of essential nutrients. However, I recommend optimizing diet first.
Supplements can also be used therapeutically. Some conditions and diseases can be improved by particular supplements. Human research is continually being conducted on the effectiveness and safety of supplements.
Nutraceuticals fall under the umbrella of supplements. They are any whole food (not isolated parts), which is concentrated and repackaged in a capsule. Examples include garlic capsules, broccoli pills, green tea capsules and more. These are used when eating a therapeutic dose of the whole food just isn't feasible.
